In our cover story this month, Danny Buckland looks at how headline trade and market deals are opening doors to greater patient access.
As Danny says: “Regulatory changes and tariffs have created a positive climate for investment, innovation and, critically, patient access to therapies. While there are detractors who warn that the UK will be hit with a huge bill when the three-year 0% tariffs on pharmaceutical exports to the US ends, the incentive to launch innovative medicines and supercharge the mechanics of getting them to patients has been given a rare boost.
“The sentiment is backed up by the ABPI, which is celebrating £1.4bn of UK inward investment from 13 major commitments – including £300m from AstraZeneca and £150m from Boehringer Ingelheim – as a direct result of the UK-US accord.” Read more on page 28.
An article that makes it worth everyone’s while to take a minute to stop and read (wives, partners, mothers, sisters, girlfriends – we all have loved ones who are impacted) is the article on men’s health on page 16. Written by Charlie Bryant, CEO of Androlabs, it is a hard-hitting piece on the current state of men’s health.
As Charlie says: “In England, more than one in three men will not live to see their 75th birthday. Despite years of growing awareness campaigns, government strategies and public conversation, that is still the reality today rather than a statistic from decades past.
“Men are still dying earlier than women, still spending more of their lives in poorer health. We are living through a public health crisis hiding in plain sight, where awareness alone is not and will not be the cure.”
Don’t let this one pass you by. Read it, share it with friends and family, and encourage the men in your lives to speak up if they feel they have a health issue. It’s a vital first step in helping them achieve a longer, healthier, happier life.
Our July/August issue will look at sustaining creativity in healthcare comms – connecting with patients through authentic engagement and innovative thinking. If you would like to make your voice heard on this topic, please get in touch at sales@pmlive.com
