PMLiVE’s Top Pharma list – results and predictions for global drug sales

The list ranks the top companies in the pharmaceutical industry by their global sales, as well as by their revenues in the US, Europe and Japan

PMLiVE’s Top Pharma list has launched, ranking the top companies in the pharmaceutical industry by their global sales, as well as by their revenues in the US, Europe and Japan.

Each company listed has its own profile page, featuring graphs for each of the global revenue rankings, which include rankings for biologic, cardiovascular, central nervous system, immunology, metabolic, ophthalmology, respiratory and oncology sales.

The ranking of the top pharma companies has been compiled from GlobalData’s pharmaceutical revenue figures, which are based on sales of prescription medicines, including generics drugs. The rankings include historical data from 2006 to 2023 and forecast data for 2024 to 2030.

Top 25 Pharma Companies – Global sales

Johnson & Johnson has claimed the top spot on the list of Top 25 Pharma Companies based on Global sales. The company reported $54,103m in global revenue in 2023, with this predicted to grow to $58,941m in 2025 and $80,170m in 2030.

AbbVie and Merck & Co have taken second and third place in Global sales, respectively, with Roche, Pfizer, Novartis, Bristol Myers Squibb, AstraZeneca, Sanofi and GSK also making the top ten.

Top 25 Pharma Companies US Rx

Coming in first on the list of Top 25 Pharma Companies US Rx is AbbVie, reaching $41,857m in US Rx revenue in 2023, with a forecast rise to $46,513m in 2025 and $56,394m in 2030. Bristol Myers Squibb and Johnson & Johnson have taken second and third place, respectively, with Roche following close behind in fourth place and Merck & Co in fifth.

Top 25 Pharma Companies Europe Rx

Pfizer has come out on top on the list of Top 25 Pharma Companies Europe Rx, with $9,587m in Europe Rx revenue in 2023, expected to move down to $812m in 2025, then increasing to $1,145m in 2030. (The company’s revenue is forecast to be bolstered by US anticipated revenue of $49,420m in 2025, rising to $50, 957m in 2030.)

Sanofi and Roche follow in second and third place, respectively, and are joined in the top ten by AstraZeneca, GSK, Novo Nordisk, Takeda, Teva, Gilead Sciences and Daiichi Sankyo.

Top 15 Pharma Companies Japan Rx

Roche is in first place on the list of Top 15 Pharma Companies Japan Rx, with $4,116m in Japan Rx revenue in 2023. Forecasts ease down slightly in 2025, with expected revenue of $3,996m, then increase to an expected revenue of $4,557m in 2030.

Daiichi Sankyo and Otsuka follow in second and third place, respectively, and are joined in the top ten by Takeda, Ono, Mitsubishi, Astellas, Eisai, Sawai and Shionogi.
