COMMUNIQUE AWARDS 2024
The event, now in its 26th year, has become a calendar staple in the healthcare and medcomms industry
This year’s host, Claudia Winkleman
Co-chairs Catherine Devaney and Neil Flash
The Communiqué Awards returned for its 26th year on 4 July to celebrate the achievements and dedication of the healthcare and medical communications industry.
Taking place at the London Grosvenor House Hotel and starting with a VIP reception, hundreds of guests dressed to impress were eager to find out who would be a Communiqué 2024 winner.
Taking to the stage to welcome the guests to the Awards were the two co-chairs, Catherine Devaney, founder of Curious Health Communications, and Neil Flash, owner of Ignition Consulting, who both took on the role for the first time this year.
This year’s Awards, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, included 31 categories across healthcare comms and medical affairs, as well as individual, team and company honours.
The first award of the evening, Excellence in Communicating and Using Data, went to Weber Shandwick for Sanofi and Regeneron for its entry titled ‘Severe Asthma Index’. The judges described the programme as “a huge undertaking and an incredible step forward for severe asthma across the world”.
‘Unseen Unheard: The Untold Breast Cancer Stories of Black Women in the UK’ by Mearns & Pike for Gilead Sciences in partnership with Black Women Rising won four awards this year: Excellence in Patient Programmes, Excellence in Healthcare Partnerships, Charitable Campaign of the Year and the Progress Award in Healthcare and Scientific Communications.
A new category for 2024, the Green Square and Passion Partnership Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Working, went to ‘Teaming Up With the Mighty Vavengers in the Fight Against Female Genital Mutilation’ by Stirred for The Vavengers. The panel said the entry “told a complete story and was impactful, with all elements clearly communicated”, adding that it was “a perfect example of pro bono working”.
The emotive Early Career Achiever in Healthcare Communications award was given to Megan Petursdottir of Porter Novelli, who the judges said would be “an amazing leader in the future”.
Taking home the final award of the night, Communiqué Communications Consultancy of the Year, was WA Communications. The judges were impressed by the team’s authenticity, cohesiveness and presentation, and commended its “focus on diversity and, in particular, the mentoring scheme to support those from under-represented communities”.
The event concluded with an evening of celebrations, with networking and dancing marking the end of yet another successful Communiqué Awards.
