Partnering to transform care

In our cover story this month, Danny Buckland looks at how HCPs and patients are partnering to transform care through shared decision-making.

As Danny says: “A key challenge is to empower HCPs with relevant knowledge in an era of dwindling face-to-face engagements and bursting communication channels.

“Digital advances continue to open up new vistas for patients to become more knowledgeable and able to contribute insights to shared decision-making. With podcasts, webinars and social media now being powerful sources of knowledge, HCPs are better able to connect with patients’ lived experiences and collaborate on effective, sustainable care.” Find out more on page 26.

Also in this issue, the article on the impact of multiple sclerosis (MS) on ageing patients by Nektaria Alexandri looks at how ageing is associated with significant immunological changes that can influence both the progression of the disease and the response to treatment.

Nektaria explains: “The growing population of older adults with MS presents both challenges and opportunities for the medical community. As our understanding of age-related disease progression evolves, so too must our approach to treatment. By prioritising personalised care, reassessing therapeutic goals and integrating a holistic perspective on ageing, clinicians can better support their patients in navigating MS later in life.” Turn to page 16 for more.

The article by Patrice Navarro on how AI is unlocking a new era of medical innovation highlights the importance of ensuring that AI tools comply with strict standards while promoting fairness, accountability and reliability.

Patrice says: “AI is fundamentally transforming healthcare, unlocking medical breakthroughs that were previously unimaginable. While regulatory challenges exist, they are not obstacles but enablers, ensuring AI-driven solutions are safe, transparent and trusted.” Find out more on page 33.

Our next issue, in May 2025, will look at increasing engagement and maintaining attendance in clinical trials. If you would like to make your voice heard on this topic, please get in touch at sales@pmlive.com
